TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
MX4 personal gas monitor is a piece of personal protective equipment designed to detect atmospheric and respiratory hazards and protect workers from these hazards in their workplace. The MX4 personal monitor can be configured to your company’s and work area’s specific needs and will notify workers in real time if and when hazardous atmospheres are present in the work area, including gas hazards and oxygen deficient environments. If gas or oxygen deficiency is detected, the monitor will alarm with a series of beeps and flashing lights to alert the worker. The monitors run on an extended-life litium ion battery and are designed to handle harsh outdoor conditions, from extreme high to extreme low temperatures, with a four-year warranty.
Industrial Scientific offers the MX4 personal monitor in several models with multiple features depending on personal protection needs for workers in specific work environments and industries. These options including a one-, two-, three- and four-gas monitor. The MX4 monitor is able to test and detect atmospheres containing 0-100% Combustible Gas (LEL), )-1000 ppm CO (Carbon Dioxide), 0-500 ppm H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide), and 0-30% O2 (Oxygen).
The monitors must be placed on the Industrial Scientific docking stations and bump tested weekly, and calibrated monthly to ensure best performance. Features include a series of screens, showing the main home screen, zero screen, and peak reading screen. The peak readings screen will show the highest gas levels the monitor has detected during a period since it was last bumped/calibrated. Peaks can be cleared manually outdoors in ambient air where no atmospheric hazards may be present. The monitors can also be cleared (zeroed) the same way on another screen, also outdoors in ambient air where no atmospheric hazards may be present. Zeroing and clearing the peak readings will ensure your monitor is functioning and reading properly, especially between bump tests/calibration if any gas is detected on the monitor.
The most important feature is the alarms to notify workers when they are in a potentially hazardous work environment where harmful gases and respiratory hazards may be present. The monitor will first sound a low-level alarm, including flashing lights, if low concentrations of gases are detected. If high levels of gases are detected, the monitor will sound a rapid series of beeps, flashing lights and vibration to alert the monitor. By sending these alarms in real-time, workers will be notified and aware to evacuate the area in an upwind/crosswind direction for their own safety.
